How Do You Know Which AI Role Can Actually Take the Next Task?
When you hand off the next task, a role name alone is not enough. You need to know whether that role can still work, how much capacity remains, and whether its reasoning level and permissions fit what you are about to ask it to do.
Before you assign the task, check the signals that actually affect the decision: remaining capacity, reset time, reasoning strength, permissions, and task fit. If the model provider does not expose a real number, the interface should tell you it is unknown instead of pretending to know.
Check remaining capacity before you hand over the work.
You can see the masked account, real remaining balance or quota when the provider supplies it, and the reset time in member details, the role library, and role-creation flows. Roles using the same ChatGPT account reflect the same shared account capacity.
Treat “unknown” as unknown.
Some model providers do not expose remaining usage. When no real value is available, you see “capacity unknown” instead of an estimated number, so you can tell the difference between a real limit and missing provider data.
Match reasoning strength and permissions to the task.
Pi roles can use different reasoning strengths. New roles start with Full permissions for files, commands, and network access, while any role you already restricted keeps those limits. You can choose based on what the next task actually needs.
